When the plant is in a cold and dark spot during winter, it will die off, coming back in April. The plant is hardy in mild climates (down to about -10 degrees). Water the plant regularly. Moisten the soil to the bottom and then wait a few days for the soil to dry before watering again. This will prevent wet feet.
