Philodendron gigas
Native to Panama, 'discovered' only 25 years ago, this Philodendron variety has large leaves of deep green colour, similar to those of the Philodendron melanochrysum. The foliage emerges as a coppery green colour, darkening to almost-black as they mature. Similarly to the melanochrysum, it has a velvety texture. One of the largest plants of the Philodendron family, the gigas can grow to over 15 metres in its native habitat, with the leaves reaching sizes of over a metre in length.
