Goeppertia veitchiana 'medallion' syn. Calathea medallion (Prayer plant)
Native to the Andes region of Ecuador, this Goeppertia would grow underneath the canopies of tropical rainforests. Indigenous peoples were known to use the leaves to make baskets. As a houseplant, the Goeppertia veitchiana is prized for its glossy, green foliage that has striking green stripes, as well as purple undersides.
Rating- Moderate
Loves- Semi-shade is best, no direct sunlight. Needs high humidity. Water regularly through spring-autumn and reduce in winter, allowing the soil to dry out a little.
Hates- Direct sunlight will scorch the leaves and fade the leaf colour and pattern!
