Fargesia nitida ‘Black Dragon’ is a distinctive bamboo species from China, notable for its decorative, almost black canes. New shoots emerge green and quickly turn dark purple to black when exposed to sunlight, creating a striking contrast with the fine, fresh green foliage. This Fargesia is semi-evergreen, winter-hardy, and non-invasive, making it very suitable for garden use without the need for a root barrier. The plant grows upright and compact, reaching a maximum height of around 3 meters, which makes it ideal for creating a dense, natural hedge, while it also works well as a solitary plant or in borders. Young canes may temporarily lose some leaves, while the older ones remain largely green, allowing the plant to maintain a neat appearance even in winter.

Care
Fargesia Black Dragon prefers a place in sun or semi-shade and needs moderate to a lot of water. Water the plants regularly in summer and on hot days. It is recommended to plant the bamboo at a distance of 40-60 cm apart if placed in the open ground. But it is also possible to plant the plants in a pot in the garden!

Size
On delivery, the plants have a height of 25-40cm, measured including the nursery pot. The plants are delivered in a 14 cm diameter nursery pot.
